About Weldon
Named the Top Performing Individual for Keller Williams Realty in 2007, Weldon Rigby has proven himself a revered name in the real estate industry. That designation placed Rigby in the top four among 78,000 agents in the United States and Canada, an achievement which he has added to his most recent recognitions.
In 2007, Rigby also excelled among more than 2,900 agents in the Houston region when he received the first place award for Individual Closed Volume in the Houston area (Regional) and second place in Individual Listing Volume in the Houston Area (Regional). In his own office, which employs more than 450 agents, Rigby received the Top Producer First Place award (Keller Williams Metropolitan) and was named the Top Listing Agent for 2007 (Keller Williams Metropolitan).
Rigby said there's no particular secret to his success. "I simply have a God-blessed business," he said. It also helps that Rigby takes what he calls a "semi-perfectionist" way in serving his clients.
"It's not about the money," he said. "This is a business of relationships – I suit up, and show up. I get to know my clients' needs and provide materials to educate them about the market. Follow-up is also very important. If I am your agent, I will do everything in my power to earn the privilege of being your agent for life."
Rigby joined Keller Williams in 2004, but his career began more than 37 years ago, when business was done with payphones, one-page contracts and one-page listings. Today, Rigby said the Internet provides interactive views of properties, contracts are more than 20 pages long, and electronic lockboxes have replaced the need for keys.
After almost four decades in the industry, Rigby said he's seen many agents come and go. "This is a hard business, and many people don't know that there is a high turnover," he said.
However, Rigby said the job has its share of rewards for those who truly enjoy meeting and helping people with what is often their biggest investment – their home.
"I've gotten to know people in every age and stage, from 18- to 90-year olds," he said.
Rigby also believes he has stayed in business because of loyal clientele and their referrals.
"I've seen grandparents, parents and children come back and refer their friends," he said. "If you're good to people, it's reciprocal. The old golden rule – that's what I do, and it works for me."
Rigby works with a staff of two; Rachel King, Listing and Sales Manager, and Nancy McIntyre, Office Administrator.
"I couldn't do what I do without them," he said. "I make it a point to meet with every single one of my clients, and that would be very hard without their support."
Rigby specializes in luxury properties in Central Houston, the Galleria, West University, Memorial, River Oaks and in the Tanglewood area where he has lived with wife Dawn for more than 30 years. The two also share a 13-year-old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Sophie, who is Rigby's constant companion during neighborhood walks.
"I've sold 40-50 houses in my neighborhood through an introduction by Sophie. People will stop and inquire about her, and we end up talking about houses.
Despite reports of a downturn in real estate, Rigby said the market for luxury properties continues to flourish, and he looks forward to many more years in the business.
"I'll probably never retire," he said. "When I can't drive anymore, I'll just sell homes in my own neighborhood."
